Nostalgic valentine candy

valentine candy
Take a trip down memory lane with these nostalgic Valentine candies. Think back to childhood about those special Valentines candies you waited to receive each year.

The nostalgia factor is huge when it comes to treats such as Conversation Hearts, cinnamon hearts, and chocolate kisses, or new favourites like the Valentine Peeps. Hearts and lovebirds have been added to the line-up in addition to new flavour twists on the standard Peeps chick which have been produced the last few years.

Conversation hearts

Conversation hearts were a long time in the making. The first candies printed with text were designed in the 1860s, but it took until the early 1900s before these sugary treats took the form of hearts with a line or two of romantic intentions.

Today conversation hearts are produced each year for Valentine's Day by a variety of companies including NECCO, Brach's, and Jelly Belly. Give a conversation heart to a loved one and share the love!

Cinnamon hearts

Cinnamon hearts are candies that taste like spicy cinnamon. They are sometimes called "Red Hots" or "Cinnamon Imperials" (though this is used for any cinnamon hard candy). They are great for wedding favours, and they are commonly used as nonpareils to top cupcakes and other desserts.

Cinnamon hearts are produced each year for Valentine's Day by a variety of companies. The commonly-seen ones are Brach's, but there are also other brands available. If you like the taste of cinnamon, try some today!

Chocolate hearts

Chocolate hearts are the essence of Valentine's Day. They're sweet, they're good, and hey, they're chocolate! Nothing says "I love you" better than sharing your chocolate with someone you love, right? If you share, the other person just knows they're someone special.

Chocolate hearts are usually individually wrapped in brightly-coloured foil, so of course it's not necessary to share the entire bag of them (unless you really want to).

Chocolate kisses

These are specific to the Hersey brand. They are little dollops of pure chocolate shaped into a vaguely conical "kiss" shape.

Chocolate kisses are individually wrapped in brightly-coloured foil with a paper tab coming from the top of the wrapping. Kisses are best shared, of course.

Marshmallow Peeps

While not a traditional valentine candy, these new valentine Peeps are too cute and tasty to pass up by marshmallow connoisseurs. They are made from sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, and various food dyes, just in time for the valentine season.

When it's that time of year, you have your choice of Peeps Marshmallow Hearts in red, pink and white -- each of the standard valentine colours.
